Request for Proposals

The Diversity Cabinet, chaired by Roberto Diaz del Valle, Director of the Office of Diversity Affairs, is pleased to announce a request for proposals that address minority, gender, and cultural issues relating to the development and function of a diverse university community. Typical proposals should cost less than $2,500.00 and funded proposals must expend funds by the end of the fiscal year. Preference will be given to proposals of an interdisciplinary nature that will involve and/or benefit students.

Proposals are solicited for the following types of projects:

1. Development of fuller proposals for external funding to address diversity issues; e.g., administrative internships for women and minorities that will help them acquire experiences relevant to assuming administrative roles.
2. Development and delivery of seminars or workshops that will contribute to increasing awareness of diversity issues.
   
3. Innovative programs designed to identify and eliminate barriers to recruitment and/or retention of women and minority administrators and faculty.
   
4. Instructional development projects that expand knowledge about cultural similarities and differences and foster the formation of positive attitudes toward diversity.
5. Innovative projects that encourage the recruitment and/or retention of minority students.

Proposals should consist of:

1. Cover letter with a one or two paragraph summary of the project and the total funds requested.
2. Project description (3-5 pages) that includes:
   • Project objective(s)
   • Brief statement of how the project will help promote diversity goals, indicating the audience to be targeted and describing the plan for disseminating information or announcements, if appropriate.

   • Budget
     
   • Bibliography
3. Curriculum Vitae (summary) of key personnel

Criteria for awards:

1. Qualification of applicant(s)
   
2. Strength of proposal (scholarship, creativity, practicality, feasibility)
   
3. Scope of project (preference will be given to interdisciplinary projects)
   
4. Cost benefit
